Hip Hop Community

Is the new state of Hip Hop wack as hell?

There's been some struggles within the Hip Hop community since the early '90s. Since the days when Hip Hop artists started to sell out. Back in '93 when Tribe Called Quest was doing the Sprite commercial Hip Hop heads everywhere were taken aback. Now if one of our Hip Hop artists do the same thing but 10 times more sell out-ish (if you will), the get mad props. Now this takes us back to the age old question made popular by the old school group Black Sheep; this or that? Do you want the hot boy in the video with all the girls in bikini's or do you want the cool down to earth brotha in the poetry cafe kickin' it with some dread lock or afro chicks before he goes on stage to bust a rhyme. Nelly or Mos Def, Puffy or the Roots; even better what about 50 Cent or Talib. Well with the age of the sell out MC, because you don't get record deals any more unless you pretty much sell out or are just so real and talented that people can't help but notice you. It just seems like Hip Hop music is so wack, and the video's are filled with a bunch of chicks instead of video content as well as lyrical content. So basically, Nelly has the formula for a great club song while Mos Def has so much content in his lyrics that makes you think. Basically, we here at HipHope would like you to not forget about your underground artist, they need your support.

Yeah I would no doubt still say it's the Roots, they have the most hot shit on one album, plus it's deep. You know Erykah Badu might have gotten this if her 3 years worth of studio work was more than 9 fuckin' songs. There's someone here arguing that it's 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Trying, NOT! Yeah that would be number one on the blandest lyrical content with the fattest beats column. Holla back!

Strictly lyrical

Who's the hottest rapper out, who has the best rhymes pound for pound. Back in the day there was Big Daddy Kane and KRS1 that were leading the pack, now it may be between Mos Def and Eminem. Eminem should loose just because of that wack ass D12 album. But as of now Mos Def would get the best content lyricist and Eminem would get the best lyrical flipper. His content isn't as deep as Mos but he can sure put some words together to make some hot ass shit though!

Then and now lyrical masters......

  Jill Scott

We been asking for so long, when is Jill Scott coming out with some new shit. Well as of August 31st, we finally got what we been looking for. Since she came out with Who is Jill Scott - Words and Sounds Vol 1 in 2000, a live album a year later and several singles with the roots and sound tracks she gives us Jill Scott, Beautifully Human - Words and Sounds Vol 2. This is by far her best work. I guess she nixed the sophmore jinx with her live album. Her latest piece is as soulful and open as her original album. Songs like Bedda at Home gives such a soulful sexy vibe! Golden brings the funk on her new album with some old dancefloor shit right there. Go out and cop that, it's the hottest album ever! Check her web site Jillscott.com for more info and to hear some samples of her album. (You'll see that on this site, there's a lot of hottest shit ever, holla back).

Chicago Hip Hop Continued
You remember Bruno from Chicago's Blue Groove Lounge, Chicago's longest running Hip Hop night, duplicated but never imitated!

Here's Bruno, a bouncer from Chicago (not just any bouncer but Chicago's most trusted bouncer) turned music producer. This has been one of HipHope.com's most closest affiliate for several years. Here we are now doing a story on him making beats. He also rocks the mic occassionally. He resently kicked it onstage with some pretty famous people including KRS1. Oh by the way this is Wycleff's bouncer from his 2000 tour. Click his pic to hear a sample of a song that he produced, he's not rapping on this one.

Tyme to Shyne?!?

Shyne, the most wanted from Def Jam!!!

Defjam.com has reported that a survey of their readers say he's the most anticipated artist coming out; he beat out Redman, Shawna, LL, CNN, Ja Rule, Joe Budden and MOP. Shyne has got some lyrical beef with 50. It had something to do with Shyne not wanting to sign to 50's label or some shit right. 50 snapped off on him on Hot 97 in NYC, now shine has has a new single off his upcoming October album (was supposed to be Sept, buy delayed due to internet leeks) called, For the Records has some serious lyrics aimed at 50 cent. Aimed litterally, 50 said he's soft and won't shoot up the club, Shyne said he could never beef with 50 because he doesn't take him seriously and if he was in jail with him, he'd be this "little dude." Oh man, Hip Hop on a higer level, the level called the streets. We can hope that this battle never gets to that level.
